Gennum’s latest industry leading GS2984 adaptive SD/HD/3G cable equalizer is a pin for pin direct replacement for Gennum’s previously released GS2974A and GS2974B variants offering far better performance with repsect to the jitter and power consumption across longer co-ax cables? The time is now right to carry out the upgrade and move on up to experience the system benefits of the GS2984.
GS2984 Key Features:
SMPTE 424M, SMPTE 292M, SMPTE 344M and SMPTE 259M compliant.
Supports date rates from 143Mbps to 2.97Gbps and DVB-ASI at 270Mbps.
Manual bypass for low data rates with slow rise/fall times.
50 ohm differential outputs support DC coupling to 3.3V and 2.5V CML logic.
DC coupling to 2.5V.
0 to 6dB gain boost pin.
Single 3.3V supply.
Temperature range -40 to +85 deg.C.
Power consumption is typically 195mW.
16 pin QFN package (4x4mm).
Typical equalized length of Belden 1694A cable:
- 140m at 3G data rates with 0.3UI max output jitter
- 200m at HD data rates with 0.3UI max output jitter
- 400m at SD data rates
Redesigning an existing GS2974 socket using the GS2984 Upgrade Advantages:
Extended temperature range from -40 to +85 deg.C compared to the GS2974 range of 0-70 deg.C only.
Typical power consumption at 195mW which represents a 10-15% improvement over the GS2974.
Output jitter down to 0.3UI at 140m co-ax cable compared to the GS2974 with 0.4UI at 140m.
New features such as DC coupling to industry standard 3.3V and 2.5V CML logic.
Gain select control of 0-6dB on the input pin presents the incoming signal with a flat, wideband gain of 6dB which is an ideal feature to accommodate BNC connector compensation.
100% pin compatible in 16 pin QFN package so no need for board redesign.
GS2984 Target Applications:
Like any transmission medium, cables impose transmission losses on the signals they carry, manifested as signal dispersion and loss of high-frequency content. Unless something is done to compensate for these losses, they can render the cables useless for transmitting high resolution & high speed signals over reasonable distances. Therefore, to
compensate for cable losses, an equalizer can be utilised at the receiving end of the cable.
